Tell us about your journey. How did it all start? 

It was back in 2006 when I first stepped into Institute of Hotel Management, Kolkata-India. Even as a kid, I was always fascinated by the grandeur of the hotels- the decor, the services, the never-tiring smiles. I just knew from the inception- that I have to work in hotel industry. It was something from deep inside of me.

Immediately after graduation I was selected for OCLD (Oberoi Centre of Learning & Development) where I was introduced to the different segments of business hotels, luxury hotels & luxury resorts. In 2012- I was given an opportunity to come to Maldives. Maldives is a true paradise which offers utmost personalised service to all the guests. I am here in the 'Sunny Side of Life' since then & hope to continue to be in this paradise for longer years. 


Working in Human Resources- gives me the scope to know different people who comes from different culture. To work in a multi-cultural atmosphere with a common objective to deliver service excellence is something which excites me every single day- and there is no looking back.   :) 

What do you think it takes to succeed in this industry? 

Passion:- I believe half of the battle is over if you have a passion for the job you are doing. This results in self-motivation & a desire to progress in life which takes anyone a step closer to success. 


Commitment:- With the age of 'Millennials' , - Commitment is something which has become very rare. However I sincerely feel that if you want to succeed in life- then you have to be lifelong committed to your work & to certain extent committed to your organisation (atleast two to three years in one particular organisation). One should not make a decision by only perceiving the short term benefits but rather have a definite career plan and work towards it. 


Discipline:- This is the single most attribute which contributes maximum when it comes to achieving success. Discipline in work life & in general in lifestyle will groom a person towards his/ or her goal which leads to success. Like the wise say :  "Your Level of success is determined by your level of discipline and perseverance". 

What are the attributes you look for while selecting or hiring?  If someone wants to work with you, what should they do? 

We look for budding candidates who are willing to adapt to the multi-work culture that we have in our work place. A degree or previous work experience in the field where they have applied definitely is an added advantage, But the single most important attribute for us is someone who has a positive attitude to adapt & make his/her job as his/ her lifestyle. Rest all components - believe me you can teach the candidate! 

What are some of the trends you see impacting the hospitality industry? 

The introduction of advanced technology have definitely impacted in the hospitality industry & sustainability has become utmost important in hospitality industry as more and more guest are concerned about it. 

Tech is now an enabler for great hospitality. Can you share with us some of the tech that goes into creating your guest experience?  

Tech has now made lot of things easy. Large amount of data is now easily available. We take the help of tech in creating much more personalised service. Thankfully technology has given us access to several data that help us know the preferences or special moments for our guests which helps us to plan better to make their holiday memorable. 
With e- marketing - promoting special events, packages have also become easy which help us reach out to broader international market segments. 

Two things you would like to change in the industry. 

With the age of Millennials I think we should give more empowerment to the young team members who contribute largely at the work place. I believe if they are empowered (not necessarily monetarily)- then we can control attrition which has afflicted in the recent years across the industry. 



Although changing- bureaucracy should be limited in the industry. With the rapid change of business movement- our industry needs to be flexible and adapt to the demands of the various international holiday market segments we cater. Limited bureaucracy will encourage faster adaptability that will contribute to a greater guest satisfaction. 


What can we expect from your hotel in the coming year?
